Bravo!

Bravo, you did it!

Here are the anachronic elements:

  • The harmonica, which remains a symbol associated with the conquest of the Far West, however was yet invented in Europe in its modern form in the 1820s.
  • The saxophone, here an alto saxophone goes back to 1846 and was invented by Adolph Sax who made 14 different sizes of them.
  • And finally the electric guitar goes back to the 1920's and was invented so that the sound of the instrument could be more heard within jazz and blues bands.

Did you know it?

For the other instruments shown, it is difficult to tell exactly when they first appeared.

  • The mandore, a sort of "renaissance guitar" with four strings, is particularly popular in France in the sixteenth century: it comes from a medieval instrument, the gittern that is similar to the lute, which originates from the oud, an instrument appeared in 2000 BC; The mandore evolved then into the mandolin.
  • As for the harp and the trumpet, these 2 instruments are amongst the oldest in the world: based upon the archaeological remains that were found, they respectively date from 3500 and 3000 BC, but nothing prevents us from thinking they might have been used earlier!
